The festival will offer experiences with experts from Columbus’ premier educational, business, and community organizations. Geared toward students in preschool through 8th grade and their caregivers and families, the event highlights the connection between all the arts and science—with the theme, “Art and Science – Fueling Imagination”. See how crafts transformed from art to engineering & Science, how things work, and learn to work with tools. Westerville Partners for Education organizes this event as an annual opportunity for families to learn together and to develop relationships with community organizations. Starry Night allows us to go out and find the most fascinating educational organizations in the Columbus area and put them in a room with kids and families. Max & Erma's Restaurant Night - Wednesday, 4/26 Our next Restaurant Night will take place this Wednesday, 4/26, at Max & Erma's (State St. location). They will donate 20% back to our school! In addition to our Lead Room Parents coordinating "thank you" signs for our Fouse staff, the PTO will be providing lunch for them on Monday, May 1st. Also, please keep an eye out for a Teacher Appreciation Week flier, which will be coming home in your students' folders on Friday, 4/28. It provides some suggested ways to show extra gratitude to your student's teacher(s) that week. The flier is also attached for your reference. Spring Book Fair - Volunteers Needed Our Spring Book Fair is quickly approaching and we are currently in the process of gathering volunteers! The Book Fair will take place Monday, May 8th - Thursday, May 11th. The operation and success of our Book Fair is totally dependent on volunteer participation. A link to the calendar and feedback form is available online at www.wcsoh.org. This proposed calendar has been developed based upon community and staff feedback on previous calendars. The Board is anticipated to hold its second reading on this calendar during its May 22, 2017, regular meeting to meet the state requirement of a 30-day window between a public hearing of the proposed calendar and its final approval. Key points to the proposed calendar include: - The calendar again begins the school year during the third week of August. - The second semester ends the week prior to the Memorial Day holiday. - The calendar has spring break scheduled during the last week of March. This calendar exceeds the minimum number of school year hours required by the state and includes time to address calamity days or other unforeseen events that may impact the days that school is in session. Lego Competition Event - April 29th The Westerville City School District is hosting the 11th annual Elementary LEGO Competition on Saturday morning, April 29th, in the gym at Westerville North High School. The event is open to all Westerville City School students in grades K-5. The Westerville North Music Boosters Association will facilitate the event. Proceeds will benefit the Westerville North High School music program. Dr. Scott Ebbrecht, Director of Alternative Education Services and Assessment, affirmed, “This is truly a community event that has become a tradition within the Westerville City Schools. The creations and structures students create with no directions are fantastic!” Registration information was sent home in students’ folders this past Friday. It's an event that has been taking place for about 10 years! Students dressed in their favorite Easter/dressy outfit or favorite sports outfit and shared Easter cards, fruit and cookies with the residents. Mrs. Schone was the MC for the fashion show. The students and residents both had a fun afternoon and truly enjoyed each others' company! Thank you to Mrs. Doone and Mrs. Schone for coordinating this wonderful event! Wow, what a night it was! Thanks to all of our performers at the Variety Show on Friday night! They did such a great job – so talented and entertaining to watch! We would also like to express our appreciation for all of our parent and student volunteers who worked so hard behind the scenes to make this show such a fun event! Finally, thank you to Mrs. Doone and Student Council families for providing food and donations for their Bake Sale and Raffle. Time to get practicing for the 2018 show, we’re looking forward to it already! Creativity Showcase Award Winners Thanks again to all of the students who submitted an entry in our Fouse Creativity Showcase! This year’s theme was “My Extraordinary Creature” and we certainly received many extraordinary entries!!! In fact, our student participation nearly tripled this year! For those of you who attend the Variety Show, we hope you were able to take a look at what our imaginative students came up with! Animal Shelter Donation Drive Winner – 4th Grade Fouse Leadership Summit Students really appreciate all of the donations they received for their Franklin County Animal Shelter Donation Drive this year. 4th grade donated the most items and will win a dance party!!! Westerville Parks & Rec - Arbor Day Poster Contest Due April 10th In celebration of Tree City USA, the Westerville Parks & Recreation Department is pleased to announce the 2017 Arbor Day Poster Contest. This year's contest is open to all 3rd-5th grade students in the Westerville School District or City of Westerville. One grand prize winner will be chosen to have a tree planted in their name at their school or favorite park in the City of Westerville. Here is this week's update, which contains information about upcoming events at Fouse, the weekly rotation schedule and other general tips and reminders: Schedule For The Week 4/3 (Mon)......A Day 4/4 (Tues).....B Day 4/5 (Wed)......C Day (PTO General Meeting, 7pm in Fouse Media Center) 4/6 (Thurs)....D Day 4/7 (Fri)........E Day (Variety Show, 7pm at Westerville Central High School) Community Meetings to Shape Future of Westerville Schools - April 4th & 5th Westerville City School District officials in 2013 launched an aggressive Strategic Plan to shape the district into one that is capable of meeting the needs of 21stcentury learners. Now nearly four years into the implementation of this plan, the district is at a checkpoint. “It’s time to re-engage our community to review progress on our Strategic Plan and determine what, if any, adjustments are needed,” said Superintendent Dr. John Kellogg. The first evening entails a large-group meeting to review past progress and gather feedback on current strategic plan components. During the second evening, participants will engage in small-group conversations to delve deeper into feedback obtained in the large group setting. Large-group meetings are set for 7-8:30pm this Tuesday, April 4th, and Wednesday, April 5th. Participants need to attend only one of these meetings at the district’s Early Learning Center (ELC), 936 Eastwind Drive. Small-group meetings will run from 7-8:30pm on April 19th & 20th, at the ELC. Participants will attend only one of these conversations, though they must have attended a large-group session beforehand. PTO General Meeting - April 5th Our next PTO meeting will take place on Wednesday, April 5th, at 7pm in the Media Center. All parents are invited to attend! Student Council will also be hosting a bake sale during the show and all Creativity Showcase entries will be on display as well. Hope to see you all there! Fouse Creativity Showcase Update Thanks to all students who submitted entries for our 2017 Fouse Creativity Showcase - WOW, we are so impressed!!! This Friday morning, 4/7, one winner will be announced per category and grade level during the morning announcements. All participants will receive an award of participation, winners will also receive a medal. As mentioned above, all entries will be on display at the Variety Show on Friday evening. Please come by and see all of the "Extraordinary Creatures" our students created!
